There are literally hundreds of new photography contests advertised around the world each day. There are contests for every photographic style and skill level, and prizes can include cash, vacations, photographic equipment, exhibitions, and publication.
On this page, we list some of these opportunities as they become available. We only include contests that have prizes that we feel have some actual value to travel photographers (exposure is nice, but does not qualify here unless we feel it’s an amazing opportunity!) We do not list contests that come down to a “popular vote” at the end. We also try to avoid obvious scams, but advise you to read the rules carefully before entering! We are not affiliated with the sponsors, the judges, or the contests in any way.
Contest: 25th Korean Air Travel Photo Contest
Description: Korean Air Travel Photo Contest wants to showcase and share photos of your memorable moments and beautiful sceneries you have encountered during your journey. There are two themes: General Category showcases the most memorable moment from your travels. Go Beyond is a special category for extraordinary photos that reveal new perspective on familiar attractions, including aerial and underwater photography that transcends the conventional. There is a limit of a total of 10 photos. (5 photos for each category) by on/offline reception.
Entry Fee: Free to enter.
Prize: One (1) Grand Prize will be awarded of 2 round-trip Prestige class tickets to any Korean Air international destination, plus 2 round-trip tickets to any Korean Air destination within Korea, plus a Leica Camera V-Lux Explorer Kit. Several other flight packages will also be awarded and are listed on the web site.
Eligibility: Open to all. Digital photos no restriction. Film Photos printed in black & white or color, 11″ x 14″. All images must be unpublished work. No limitation on the date of photos. No enhancement and alteration to the original source image (3,000 pixels or larger).
Copyright and Usage Rights: Contest winners give Korean Air the exclusive rights to use “award-winning photos or works” for the purpose of marketing, communications, sales, etc. without any restriction (production, copy, distribution, etc.) Contest winners must not violate and infringe the exclusive rights of Korean Air for the awarded photo or work by allowing a third party to own the copyright of the photo or work. Applicants who do not agree to this rule will be excluded from the list of contest winners at any time, whether before or after the winners are announced. Korean Air shall not have copyright ownership of each submitted image.

Contest: AFAR Travel Photography Awards 2018
Description: In partnership with United Airlines and LensCulture, a leading authoritative source for contemporary photography, this competition seeks the best travel photographers from around the world to share their personal journeys with an international audience. Image submissions for the 2018 AFAR Travel Photography Awards can span a range of genres and be inspired by many themes, including portraiture, street scenes, the journey, landscapes, wildlife, and abstract imagery. Participants will have their photographs reviewed by an esteemed jury of travel photographers, photo editors, and directors of design and photography from such industry-recognized institutions as the New York Times, GEO France, the Guardian, and AFAR.
Entry Fee: The first image is free, and each additional image is $10 for single images. $50 for up to 10 images reviewed as one album.
Prize: Winner awards, supported by LensCulture and United Airlines, include two United Polaris international business-class tickets to anywhere United flies, a photography master class led by professional photographers Joel Meyerowitz or Steve McCurry, monetary prizes, and publication in AFAR’s acclaimed travel magazine and on AFAR.com.
Eligibility: Participants anywhere in the world are welcome to submit photos as either single images or as a series.
Copyright and Usage Rights: Winners, Jurors’ Picks, and Finalists grant AFAR, LensCulture and their partners limited, restricted use of winning photos only to promote the photographers themselves and in connection with marketing the Awards competition itself.
